This was another photo from the Oregon Coast trip and series. As I said on the Vacation Grass post, this was taken with my first digital camera. I thought the composition was pretty good on this, for a rookie like me, and that black and white not only diminishes some of the lower resolution issues, but I think really has a nice effect on the photo overall.

Purty View

Purty ain’t it?

One of the great things about living in Colorado are the mountain views. Folks like us living in Longmont are particularly lucky to have this view of the “Twin Peaks”, Mt. Meeker (13,911 ft) on the left and Longs Peak (14,255) on the right. Longs Peak is Colorado’s northern most fourteener.

It has been nearly three years, but I’m still very proud to say that I’ve stepped foot atop Longs Peak. I blogged about it here and aside from a few quick photos I posted back then, have yet to really do anything with that photo set (hmmm… I guess I’ll have to take care of that).

So, this photo I took out at Golden Ponds, where my father-in-law has a membership and he likes to take the kids fishing (and I get to come along, occasionally). Nothing remarkable about this photo, other than the fact that, it is easy to get used to such a spectacular view and take it for granted. I don’t. I love to see the sun light up Longs peak in the mornings, and I’ll post other shots I’ve taken soon.

Yellowstone Road

No, not the Yellow BRICK Road, but rather Yellow STONE Road… This is easily one of my all time personal favorites, for a couple of reasons.

One, I generally like the composition, there is an interesting balance and symmetry with the tree line at the sky and along the road. I also like it given the element of chance – I was driving when I took the photo! The quality is further diminished somewhat, I suppose, since I didn’t bother to hang my head out the window, but just shoot straight ahead out the windshield.

Also, this is no where near the original – of course this was not shot native in black and white – that is post-production. I also photoshopped out two cars, one in the opposite lane coming towards us, and one in our lane just ahead.

I’m pretty sure this is from one of our early family vacation trips up to Idaho. The car in front of us that is no longer there was my in-laws. How fun is that? I kid, I kid! :)

I had this one printed and framed, and it hangs in our bedroom for now. This was the photo that keeps me taking pictures – I’m just an amateur like everyone else, but the magic of digital cameras is that you can shoot and shoot until you get something you really like. I like that and while this photo needed a lot of post production work, it was worth it.

Blue Bubbles

After posting Blue Fracture I kept thinking I should amp up the blues for fun. So, I intensified the blue in these three ice photos using the basic tools in Google Picasa. If anyone has any other ideas on how to tweak these photos, feel free to mess w/ the originals or send me ideas. Oh, and I cropped my toes out of one of the shots too.

So, these aren’t pure, natural photos anymore, but I’m thinking any one of these might look pretty cool printed large and framed.

Not The Only ‘Not That You Asked’

Interestingly enough (well, to me…) I’m not the only blogger out there smitten with the phrase “Not That You Asked” relative to some personal blogging.

I did manage to register notthatyouasked.org (.com and .net may still be available) to formalize things somewhat, though NTYA has been my blog tagline pretty much since I started blogging back in August of 2001. For a trip back in history, here is THAT RIVETING entry

The Google search for ‘not that you asked’ turned up some interesting results (again, well, to me…)

The Mandell Family blog titled Not That You Asked have cornered the SEO market on ‘not that you asked’ phrasing. Looks like she blogs for Parents.com also, so definitely worth checking out! I’m a parent! Don’t you just love the Internet?

There are a few Not That You Asked books at Amazon, including Rants, Exploits, and Obsessions by Steve Almond:

In fact, Steve gets 2 of the 10 first page results of the Google search and adds a third sponsored link. Alas, for me, one is enough – Steve, my order is in – though I’m not yet a sexual failure, I’ll take in the book through vicarious eyes, and well, be prepared for anything I suppose. Us NTYA folks MUST stick together… at all costs!

Beth, an Aries from the Midwestern United States has just slightly less Google-placement-fu than I do, coming in at 8th (wow, I’m 7th?!!)

Wow, the Mandell’s, Beth and Steve all kill me on word count – I’d better step it up. Plenty to read. I’ve added you all my RSS feed and roll call here – I’ll keep on checking in.

Carry on my phraseologic brethren!
